McKinney ARC assists ARRL NTX Section with the promotion of Amateur Radio at recent WFAA Family First event WFAA, the ABC TV affiliate in Dallas/Fort Worth, recently held another of their Family First events in McKinney. This event included weather related seminars and a town hall meeting. Several agencies, including the American Red Cross, FEMA and the National Weather Service were invited to set up information tables at the event. This included the ARRL NTX Section which was there promoting Amateur Radio and providing information to the general public. The McKinney ARC, an ARRL affiliated Special Services Club, helped coordinate the ARRL information table, provided resources for the display and helped man the table during the event. Dave Piekarski, K5EEN, the President of the McKinney ARC was instrumental in the planning and set up of the ARRL information table. Thanks to Dave, the ARRL had one of the most professional looking and informative displays at the event. This included a laptop computer showing the Amateur Radio Today video, another laptop computer running a slide show on the Amateur Radio service, a working APRS station with mapping software on yet another laptop computer and various printed displays and informative handouts. Also assisting with the ARRL presence at the event were NTX Section Emergency Coordinator and McKinney resident, Bill Swan, K5MWC and NTX Section Manager Roy Rabey, AD5KZ.
